How Much Power Does a 16-Device Charging Station Require?

Work from device draw and the branch circuit — not a single headline wattage.

要点

  • Size from device draw + efficiency + the branch circuit
  • Dynamic allocation means shared, not per-port-maximum, output

Two numbers, not one

There is device-side demand (what the 16 devices could draw) and supply-side capacity (what the station and its circuit can deliver). Sizing means reconciling the two.

  1. 1Sum the per-device charging power for your 16 devices
  2. 2Add conversion/efficiency overhead (real supplies are not 100% efficient)
  3. 3Compare against the station’s rated total output
  4. 4Check the branch circuit can supply that continuously
A US 15A/120V circuit is ~1800W, but the NEC 80% continuous-load rule means ~1440W usable; a 230V/16A circuit is ~3680W. Confirm the actual circuit before assuming simultaneous full-power charging.

Many stations use dynamic power allocation, so total output is shared across active ports rather than every port delivering its maximum at once. Confirm the simultaneous-charging behaviour per product.

Device demand vs station and circuit capacity.

よくある質問

Can I just multiply device wattage by 16?
That gives peak device demand, but real systems add efficiency losses and often share power dynamically — and the branch circuit may cap it.
What circuit do I need?
It depends on total continuous load; confirm against local electrical code (e.g. the NEC 80% rule).
